Anger Management

For many people, anger can cause significant problems by damaging relationships, causing work problems or involvement with the law. Others develop dependence on alcohol, drugs, or other vices to deal with their anger.

However, anger is an important tool to have when someone can use it constructively. The secret to positive anger is learning to manage it, rather than letting it control you. Managing anger requires an understanding of the thinking patterns which lead to anger and learning coping skills to defuse anger.

Everyone gets angry, whether they show it or not. Examples of someone who may need help learning to manage their anger might experience the following:

  • Frequent outbursts
  • Screaming and yelling at others
  • Threatening others
  • Damaging property
  • Behaviors which the person regrets when they calm down
  • Inability to blow off "little things"
  • Excessive alcohol use
  • Physical altercations.

If you experience these symptoms or others which are causing problems in your life, you may need to learn to manage your anger. This can be done through a specific curriculum developed by Dr. Brandt.
