Have you done couples therapy before only to feel...
- like you were stuck?
- the therapist was biased?
- the therapist didn’t understand?
- the therapist didn’t listen?
- the therapist didn’t provide direction?
- like therapy was just a place to vent, not take action?
- as if therapy was escalating the problems?
While many therapists offer couples counseling, few have specific training or supervision experience specifically working with couples. The Couples Therapists at Brandt Therapy Clinics, Inc. have all been trained specifically as couples therapists with degrees and licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy. Each couples therapist demonstrates expert understanding and application of Family Systems Theory, the basis of clinically-proven couples therapy as well as how to incorporate research, education and skill development into their approach.
Couples may have to learn to:
• negotiate roles
• have productive conflict
• incorporate finances
• raise children
• manage family stress
• maintain intimacy
• negotiate extended family relationships
• balance couples, family and individual time
• heal infidelity
Couples therapy focuses on each member of the couple being accountable and working to develop the necessary skills and understanding to be a self-sufficient, self-protected member of the couple. The couples therapists use theory, education and skill development to help each member of the couple become able to manage their own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in ways that benefit both the individual and the couple. Interactions between couples involve both partners so both partners are expected to address their needs to become a healthy part of the interaction.
