Depression
Many people experience some form of depression at one time or another.
This may involve a single incident or ongoing feelings. Symptoms of
depression include:
-
Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness,
and helplessness
-
Loss of interest in activities
-
Weight loss or gain, appetite changes
-
Sleeping difficulties (insomnia or sleeping several
hours a day)
-
Isolation from other people
-
Irritability and mood swings
-
Lack of motivation
Depression is often caused by specific thoughts which
lead to feelings that are destructive to the client. We use cognitive-behavioral
therapy techniques focusing on identifying and changing thought patterns which
cause depressive symptoms. This form of therapy has been shown through
research to be the single most effective way to treat depression, in
addition to medication in some cases. The therapists at Brandt Therapy
Clinics work closely with Primary Care Physicians, OB/GYNs and psychiatrists as needed.
